If starting a family has not been easy for you, it may be reassuring to know that you are not alone. It is estimated that more than 2.1 million married couples are experiencing infertility. Infertility is defined as not being able to conceive after one year or more of unprotected and frequent intercourse.

If you and your partner have been trying to conceive for a year or more and have not been successful, their may be an underlying problem that is causing this to occur. Men and women are equally as likely to have a fertility problem; it is not a problem unique to women alone. It is a good idea for you to consult your doctor and try and determine your course of action.

You should also know that if you have decided to seek fertility treatment you are one of many. More that 9.2 million women have sought the use of infertility treatments at some time in their life. Advances in science and medicine have had a positive effect on the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. Approximately two-thirds of those couples who seek infertility treatments are able to conceive.
